On Thursday, January 26th we hosted a virtual salon on building a diversified portfolio of private investments. As with public company investing, diversification is important when investing in private companies as well. The intention of this salon was to share insights with our members on how to build a diverse portfolio and key criteria to consider when evaluating opportunities to invest in private companies. Our featured speaker for this salon was Alicia Syrett, Founder & CEO of Pantegrion Capital LLC, active early stage investor and frequent commentator on CNBC.
As part of the salon, Alicia touched on the following:
1. What Does Industry Research Tell Us? - the best practices in building a portfolio of private companies: timeframe, returns, slice of your overall portfolio, setting expectations
2. What’s My Profile? - investor preferences and key considerations
3. Top 10 Company Diligence Topics - highlights of what to look for and red flags when considering a private company investments
